For the second time in three years the Justice Department has raised the filing fee on personal bankruptcies. Effective June 1, 2014 the Chapter 7 filing fee will be $325 up from $306 dollars and the Chapter 13 Filing fee will be $310 dollars up from $281 dollars. As before if you can’t afford to pay the entire fee at one time you can petition the Court to pay in up to four monthly installments. In addition, persons who can not afford an attorney can also file a motion to have the filing fees waived. I generally file 3-5 pro bono cases a year for persons below the poverty level and have never had a motion for waiver of fees denied.
